Statistics show the danger of drunk driving in America

If you live in the Atlanta area – or even if you are just passing through – the chances are pretty high that you have seen the aftermath of a motor vehicle accident on the side of the road. From side streets to the main interstates that pass through the city, traffic can get hectic at times in Atlanta, to say the least. Fortunately, most car accidents are simple “fender benders,” where neither party is injured and damage to the vehicles involved is the only concern. But, we all know that much more significant car accidents are far too common.

And, as much as governmental and non-governmental entities alike have tried for decades to raise awareness of the danger of drunk driving, the reality is that this conduct is a common cause for serious motor vehicle accidents. In fact, the statistics paint a grim picture of just how dangerous drunk driving can be.

Drunk driving statistics

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, a nationally known drunk driving prevention advocacy group that tracks statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, statistics show that every 79 seconds someone is injured or killed in America in a motor vehicle crash that can be attributed to drunk driving. The fatality statistics are particularly staggering – 37 people die every day in America due to drunk driving, according to the statistics. And, despite advocacy attempts, the number of deaths that can be attributed to drunk driving in America is actually on the rise since 2019.

If you have been in a car accident in the Atlanta area that you suspect was caused due to a drunk driver, you may have clear evidence of negligence to support your personal injury claim. A successful claim could result in an award of financial compensation to cover your medical expenses and vehicle damage expenses, among other costs.
